Are You a Groupie? - Facebook Groups that I have joined and loved and some I'm tempted to join

Who would have thought the Peeling Peeling Paint Appreciation Society would have so many fans

When I’m feeling flat, there are a number of groups which I turn to for a bit of inspiration. I am for example, a member of a lot of beautiful nature -based groups such as the Cloud Appreciation Society, Waterfalls of Tasmania, the Citizen Scientists, ones about Birds, Fungi, Auroras, Geology, Bees, Birds with Threatening Auras and the Moss Appreciation Society, There are also quite a few community groups and things like the Rail Trails and Abandoned Industrial Sites

There are also funny ones like the Leunig or The Far -side Collections, or witty, pithy quotes and put -downs by former Prime Minister, Paul Keating and subtly funny ones like Mistranslations, Misheard Lyrics and funny signs, or those like the Grammar Police, to which I just signed up my sister. Oldest son is a member of both the Dull Men’s Club (1.3 M members) and the Canberra Lawn Fanatics. You’d be surprised what those Dull Men get up to. The Lawn Appreciation Society is more practical. His lawn is in fact showing the love and care lavished on it. There are many permutations on the Dull Men's Club. The UK and Australia have their own as well.

Any one for Dull Vegans? Looks like quite a few people are

I joined the Crap Bird Photography Group because it’s the only place where my bird photography found a home. It isn’t so much for the pictures, but the hilarious comments. I joined the unspectacular subject photography Group hoping for similar success, but they told me off. It’s a serious site for pictures of ordinary things which look interesting when photographed.

Once you start joining a few groups like this, Facebook helpfully offers a lot more in a similar vein. It has no less than 10 million active groups, which surely must include something for everyone. Some are sensible and serious offering everything from professional networks and social support and help on how to fix your appliances, but I’m often there for the offbeat ones. You too will find your tribe.

Looks like a lot of people like doors too

I have recently joined the World of Washing which is a lot more interesting than you might think. I love the way it makes me look twice at very ordinary things. Some I have yet to join include The Manhole Covers of the World Appreciation Society -another group with 21.4 K members, The Dull Vegan’s Club,  and The Group Where we all Pretend to be Moths ??? which has an astounding 380K members, or maybe Accidental Renaissance Cats with 67.8K members.

Who would have thought 17K people would be enthusiastic about Manhole Covers. Now I am going to have to keep my eye open for those too. It's certainly busy

The latter is a private group and apparently there’s also a public group with only 28 members to date because, the other folks like the unspectacular subject people, are bit nitpicky. They say – the second smaller group, “Feel free to post your Renaissance cats, rats, frogs, or whatever here! You won't be berated if you get the composition or color wrong.” Oh, and some of the Cloud People are really picky too.

Looks like a lot of people fancy themselves as moths

At this moment Facebook is offering me Clouds that look Like Things. What are your favourites and what weird and wonderful groups have you joined?

PS 15/11/2024 Have just joined the Dandelion Appreciation Society for the beautiful visuals and also the messages
