More Good News

-Taken from Norway's Consumer Law Advisory

Let's celebrate the arrival of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere with a bit of Good News. The following story and the one about refilling has been shared by the Wolf of X.

With respect to earlier articles about teen Mental Health, Social Media and Body Image, Norway now has a law which requires influencers and those engaged in advertising or making images to be viewed on social media, to declare when an image has been manipulated, retouched and so on. Here's the gist of it according to from Norway's Consumer Law Authority.

" From July 1st, 2022, the Marketing Control Act Section 2 Second Paragraph has required a standardized label to be applied to all advertising in which body shape, size, or skin is altered through retouching or other manipulation.

The purpose of this new legal rule is to combat body-image pressure in society which can be attributed to idealized people in advertising. The requirement to label retouched or manipulated advertising is set to raise awareness among consumers, particularly children and youths, that the persons in the advertisement deviate from reality. The aim is to reduce the use of idealized bodies that are retouched in advertising."

Ending Homelessness

The University of Maine is combating homelessness by using the world's biggest 3D printer to create houses out of sawdust. In 2022, the printer which features in the Guinness Book of Records, was able to print roofs, walls and floors in 96 hours, but it has since been tweaked to go even faster.  Refilling Stations

Some chemists in the Czech Republic now have stations where you can refill your shampoo and body wash bottles. Would love to see a lot more of these in our our supermarkets and chemists. In the mean time I wish they would produce more in refills - I hate throwing out the pump part, and when they do, would they please make them a lot cheaper than buying the whole unit. So often, the refill bottle minus pump has either been the same price or worse still, the one with the pump is on special and cheaper than the one with a screw cap. Refilling should extend to cleaning products and detergents too. That should also take another big chunk out what goes in our rubbish bins. [Thanks to the Wolf of X for this one and the story too].
